Modern and Contemporary Art

In addition to curating and conserving artistic heritage, the role of this office is to coordinate and implement activities promoting broader knowledge, exploration and experimentation in the field of contemporary art. Its activities include documentation of aesthetic pursuits, artistic expression, and the evolution of visual culture in all its different themes and idioms by means of appropriate expositional and educational systems. The exhibition spaces are concentrated at the MAMbo. Since November 18, 2012, this museum also encompasses the Museo Morandi and the Villa delle Rose. The Museo per la Memoria di Ustica plays a sort of documentary role, as historical witness, while Casa Morandi is an invaluable point of reference for scholars studying the work of the Bolognese artist. The recently acquired Sandra Natali Residence for Artists provides logistics support to young artists who are in Bologna temporarily for cultural pursuits.
