Ennio Morlotti. Dalla collezione Merlini al Museo Morandi
The Museo Morandi Morandi continues its initiatives to complement the value of its collection through a series of temporary exhibitions that pair the work of Giorgio Morandi with that of other important artists. Starting on 18 November the museum will present a fascinating dialogue between the Bolognese master and Ennio Morlotti. In fact, in one of the exhibition halls visitors will be able to admire a wide selection of paintings and pastels of the Lombard artist, one of the most loved by the collector Giuseppe Merlini.
The exhibition, entitled Ennio Morlotti. Dalla collezione Merlini al Museo Morandi (Ennio Morlotti. From the Merlini Collection to the Morandi Museum), will remain open until Sunday, 8 January 2017 and will be accompanied by a rich catalogue (Silvana Editoriale) with reproductions of all the works displayed and texts by the curators: an essay by Fabrizio D'Amico and a comprehensive study comparing the techniques of Morlotti and Morandi by Mariella Gnani, the curator of the Merlini Collection. The volume also includes profiles of all of Morlotti's works that are part of the same collection, and an anthology of critical essays by authors who have written about both artists.
The remarkable quality of the paintings and pastels by Morlotti on display allows visitors to discover the many highlights of the artist, starting with his debut on the Milan scene of the early 1940s, documented in particular by a rare Still Life attributable to 1942. At the time, as an early protagonist of the lively artistic environment in the city, Morlotti saw in Morandi a point of reference and a model to emulate.
