Cesare Pietroiusti. Un certo numero di cose/A Certain Number of Things

MAMbo, Sala delle Ciminiere
4 October 2019 - 6 January 2020

Un certo numero di cose / A Certain Number of Things is a project by the artist Cesare Pitroiusti curated by Lorenzo Balbi with the curatorial assistance of Sabrina Samorì, winner of the 4th edition of Italian Council (2018), a competition conceived by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries (DGAAP) - an organism of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, to promote Italian contemporay art in the world.
Cesare Pietroiusti (b. Rome, 1955), artist and teacher, will complete the project, which entails a personal exhibition at MAMbo leading to the creation of a new piece of art. The main feature of the exhibition is its format with sections corresponding to “year-objects”, starting from the artist’s year of birth. The final “year-object” (for 2019), with its mise en abyme twist of placing the exhibition within itself, is a laboratory that will be activated by the students and young artists taking part and, in the process, become the production centre for new artwork. This laboratory will reproduce all the objects on display, recreating them physically or through performance and story-telling, in a kind of - possibly conceptual - co-authorship with the participants. The resulting work (a combination of sculpture, painting, video and audio material, photos and text) will be displayed at MADRE - Donnaregina Contemporary Art Museum of Naples. The project was organised with the collaboration of the Grazer Kunstverein of Graz (Austria) with further cultural events being held at its premises.

Opening: 3 October 2019 h 6.30 pm
