2. 1977 - Arte e Azione

1977 marked a watershed for Italy and for Bologna in particular. The history of the city was irreversibly marked both by a fresh, bountiful creativity and by highly dramatic events.

In this climate ‘described in real time’ by Radio Alice, art took to the streets and the walls of the city, with the so-called ‘happenings’ demanding a change. It was in that same year that the GAM organised the International Performance Week, presenting the most innovative examples of body art, ‘actionism’ and multimedia practices within an institutional setting.

Among the leading protagonists of the series were Marina Abramovic and Ulay, Gina Pane, Hermann Nitsch and Luigi Ontani.
